St Swithuns Bicker

There are several fragments of late Anglo Saxon carvings in the church. The surviving Norman architecture tells us that the church was a very impressive 12th Century building; Most of the church is 13th century apart for the west wall which is 15th century. The present west window is part of the extensive, though not unsympathetic Victorian restoration. On the festival weekend Bicker Steam Threshing and Classic Car Show is held in a field just past the Church. This is where refreshments are available, there are stalls and plenty of entertainment and it is in aid of St Swithuns church. Sunday at 2pm a service is held on the field

During world war 2 a stick of bombs was dropped on the village, one landed in the churchyard and one in the vicarage garden, they were both safely removed and no damage caused. A small plaque in the church commemorates this event.imb
